One Child Policy in China — still continues...
For thirty-three years the Chinese Communist government has controlled families and birth, with the one child policy, for population control. But that has also led to infanticide, mainly girls, and trafficking.
Shameful.
Beyond me.
If one has enough money and/or connections then they can buy approval for another child, I gather.
The cultural revolution has basically led to an imbalance, extremely wealthy and powerful versus the rest, regardless of red capitalism and the new middle class. Of course, there's corruption, but that exists everywhere, and it often catches up with perpetrators.
From what I have read and heard the Chicoms are reconsidering the one child policy to a two child policy.
I have never been to China, so who am I to judge? I read voraciously and listen and learn from second-hand observations.
Frankly, I don't think of freedom. It's there. I am virtually free to do things even though I live in Ontario, the nanny state, since the the Liberals took over the government. But so far they haven't stopped me from free-speech, yet, and they haven't taken control of how many babies a family can have, yet. Nevertheless, I am so fortunate my parents emigrated to Canada.
Though I am limited about the culture and government I trust the sources that I read and hear... such as John Batchelor on his radio talk show and guest Gordon Chang — and recently Dr. James Garrow of the Bethune Institute in China and the Pink Pagoda organization, which helps to save baby girls.

The Pink Pagoda - Jim Garrow (Once more, Upward & Onward. Onward & Upward)...
Jim Garrow should've won the Nobel Prize rather than Barack Obama. In his book, Jim congratulated the President and made some suggestions. Now he is unable to travel to America. Of course, the Chinese government labelled saving baby girls' lives for adoption as illegal. And it was, the documents etc., but they live.
Jim sent me a hard-copy of the book. I had read an earlier manuscript on PDF and had made my comment. But this time, I read it slowly and enjoyably because I love the feel of a book in my hands.
And, I remained ever optimistic while drying my tears... About mothers giving up baby girls, fortunately some were given to Mr. Garrow to take care of and find loving parents.
THE PINK PAGODA by Jim Garrow is the compelling, compassionate story of one man's determination to save baby girls in China, one child at a time. Today, the number of girls he has saved from gendercide brought about by China's one-child mandate is over 40,000. Given that Dr. Garrow has been doing this for eleven years and is himself only 60, one can only speculate as to how large that number could become during his lifetime.
This is the story of how one man's decision to say "Yes" to one child in danger led him to use his entrepreneurial gifts and innate skills for mobilizing others to create the baby-saving organization which is called Pink Pagoda. All of this has come at great personal cost to him, along with the reality that his life and those of his family hang on the edge of danger. Pink Pagoda is his promise to God out of gratitude for his own son's life being saved at birth. That is a promise he will honor for the rest of his life.
Not that Dr. Garrow is a mild-mannered milquetoast loved by all and gentle in his demeanor. More accurately, he is a "rogue with integrity" who works hand in hand with the most secret of Chinese intelligence forces, and who is by United Nations description a "criminal engaged in human trafficking". Ironically, he was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 and the Order of Canada in 2010. Apparently, God's guanxi trumps the U.N.
The term guanxi is central to how Dr. Garrow accomplishes what he does. The concept of carefully nurtured relationships and connections dates back to medieval China, and is what drives life in China, at all levels - from the simple peasant to the President of China. Garrow is a master of guanxi, and one of the most highly respected people in China.
His story combines his impish humor with the horrors of what he has encountered in China, more adventure than apologia. He is at the core an ordinary man doing extraordinary work under the guidance of God.
The above was copied on the Amazon site. The book will be available March 13, 2012. Many weeks earlier I was able to read a PDF version sent to me by Mr. Garrow. We met through Facebook and have communicated a few times by e-mail and cell phone.
Over the years, I have met interesting people, but few as fascinating as Jim Garrow, founder and executive director of the Bethune Institute's Pink Pagoda schools, private English-immersion schools for Chinese children.
There are a few people who question his credentials and accomplishments, but there are many more who praise what he has done, so far, and for staying out of jail and alive.
Though I write about China, mainly politics and foreign affairs, I have never been there. But from what I have read, the majority of people have a heart and soul, and desire a better life with freedom... Preferably in reasonable stages rather than a revolution, which the elders of the Old Guard undoubtedly fear.

Muslims believe Freedom of Speech is blasphemous... and will choke it where possible...

Even comedian Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean, Blackadder) is concerned with political correctness regarding Muslims, Islam, Mohammed and the Qur'an from what I gather. Restricted laws would cause —
"a veneer of tolerance concealing a snake pit of unaired and unchallenged views."
Publishers, such as Random House, fear zealous Muslims, therefore they refuse to publish works that criticize or misconstrue the prophet, the written words, and so forth. "Jewel of Medina" by Sherry Jones a historical romance novel about Mohammed's wife was rejected, likely for the safety of employees and people associated with distribution.
People were threatened and murdered when Ayatollah Khomenei of Iran ordered Salman Rushdie's death because of his novel "Satanic Verses" which virtually started the bounties against blasphemy.
"Throughout the Muslim world, Sunni, Shia, and Sufi Muslims may be persecuted for differing from the version of Islam promulgated by locally hegemonic religious authorities. Saudi Arabia represses Shiites, especially Ismailis. Iran represses Sunnis and Sufis. In Egypt, Shia leaders have been imprisoned and tortured."
- In Afghanistan, Shia scholar Ali Mohaqeq Nasab, editor of Haqooq-i-Zen magazine, was imprisoned by the government for publishing “un-Islamic” articles that criticized stoning as a punishment for adultery.
- Saudi democracy activists Ali al-Demaini, Abdullah al-Hamed, and Matruk al-Faleh were imprisoned for using “un-Islamic terminology,” such as “democracy” and “human rights,” when calling for a written constitution.
- Saudi teacher Mohammed al-Harbi was sentenced to 40 months in jail and 750 lashes for “mocking religion” after discussing the Bible in class and making pro-Jewish remarks.
- Egyptian Nobel prize winner in literature Naguib Mahfouz reluctantly abandoned his lifelong resistance to censorship and sought permission from the clerics of Al-Azhar University to publish his novel Children of Gebelawi, hitherto banned for blasphemy. Mahfouz subsequently lived under constant protection after being stabbed by a young Islamist, leaving him partly paralyzed.
- After Mohammed Younas Shaikh, a member of Pakistan’s Human Rights Commission, raised questions about Pakistan’s policies in Kashmir, he was charged with having blasphemed in one of his classes.
- In Bangladesh, Salahuddin Choudhury was imprisoned for hurting “religious feelings” by advocating peaceful relations with Israel.
- In Iran, Ayatollah Boroujerdi was imprisoned for arguing that “political leadership by clergy” was contrary to Islam, and cleric Mohsen Kadivar was imprisoned for “publishing untruths and disturbing public minds” after writing Theories of the State in Shiite Jurisprudence, which questioned the legal basis of Ayatollah Khomeini’s view of government.
The above is from the adaptation of a speech on Imprimis, a publication of Hillsdale College by Paul Marshall, Senior Fellow, Hudson Institute, and co-author of "Silenced: How Apostasy and Blasphmy Codes are Choking Freedom Worldwide".
There are many more Muslims threatened by Muslims you might either read or listen to the speech by Paul Marshall.

I suppose I might have difficulty with some publishers regarding my historical fiction novel— "Barbarians" — where women Mongol warriors in the nomad army defeated Muslims. Women as soldiers bothered them then and now.
Israel has women in the forces. How disgusting Muslims must think, even more disgusting since they lost wars to women, too.

GCB — based on Good Christian Bitches — a Disney TV series on ABC...

This is author Kim Gatlin's first novel. Heard about the TV series "GCB" (Good Chritian Belles) based on the book "Good Christian Bitches" on Rush Limbaugh's talk radio show. Never read it, and have not interest in watching this "lighthearted tale".
Of course, Christians are not perfect and that is one of the reasons they go to church and pray... also because Hollywood might make movies and TV series on them. Maybe, I ought to edit my first novel attempt "Alexandria's Shell" and have several religions for the rowing girls, which there are.
Perhaps, I should change the title to "Alexandria's Bitches" and the book will get published and be a bestseller. The Gay communities would love it.
"Good Christian Bitches is the lighthearted tale of Amanda Vaughn, a recently divorced mother of two. To get a fresh start, she moves back to the affluent Dallas neighborhood where she grew up. In an Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Desperate Housewives on steroids style, her old friends are already out to destroy her reputation. In the whirling midst of salacious gossip, Botox, and fraud, Amanda turns to those who love her and the faith she's always known. Will the Good Christian Bitches get the best of her, or will everyone see that these GCBs are as counterfeit as their travel jewelry?"

Conservatism, Conservative, Conserve...
Conservatism and conservative derived from the word conserve. That doesn’t mean conservatives store everything like squirrels. But they are practical and generally no-nonsense types.
Conservatism - Encyclopaedia Britannica
http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/133435/conservatism
Conservatives believe in free enterprise and private ownership with little interference from governments and bureaucrats who produce red tape.
Of course, total freedom can lead to extremities; hence moderation and caution are reasonable actions. Sensible regulations make things fair, which lead to fair enterprise and fair trade. However, capitalism works best with minimum rules by governments.
Conservatives believe in society, individualism, artistic endeavours, charities, families, and traditions -- As well as strong and up to date military because the world is not utopia.
Judges should judge not interfere with parliamentary laws and the constitution.
Conservatives believe in low taxes and wise government spending, preferably within the means.
“Private property, a rule of law, an enterprise-friendly culture, and a diversity of independent and competing countries – these four factors must still be supplemented by a fifth if capitalism is really to flourish. This final element is an encouraging framework of tax and regulation. Of course, at one level that is merely an extension of the second factor – rule of law. And it is certainly true that the arbitrariness of a state ruled by the ad hoc commands of politicians or bureaucrats, rather than by known, predictable and universally applicable body of law administrated by objective and honest courts is extremely bad for business… But in order to get the best out of capitalism the burdens of the state have to be not merely equitable – they have to be light.” Margaret Thatcher (from her book "Statecraft", 2002)
Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was a leader of common sense and conservative values. She and the Conservative government turned the United Kingdom around from the socialist agendas that almost ruined the country.
“When the objectives of government include the achievement of equality – other than equality before the law – that government poses a threat to liberty.
That is why those who value freedom above all other political objectives – as I do – will settle for justice without adjectives, and rely on the rule of law not social engineering to uphold it. As long as all men and women are truly equal before the law, and as long as the law is effectively administrated and honestly adjudicated, then however much the fortunes differ they have no right to complain that they are unjustly treated. It is up to them what they do with their lives and property. They bear the ultimate responsibility for success or failure – and everyone’s life consists of a mixture of the two. And the government of the day, if it is a true friend of freedom, will avoid redistributive taxation and other forms of intervention aimed at social planning, because it knows that these things are, for all the accompanying talk of social justice, fundamentally unjust.” Margaret Thatcher
Redistribution of wealth, social engineering, government interference and control are Obama’s and the Democrats’ prime goals -- the latest New Deal of the New World Order to comply with Europe and the United Nations. Leaders must be strong and focused but, frankly, it seems that Obama treats the people as subjects.

DESIRE & DESPAIR — about the Middle East...
"DESIRE & DESPAIR"... Great title for a novel about unrequited love.
However, this time the topic is about the Arabs (Middle East Muslims). The leaders desire a Caliphate, to rule their ill-fated world. The zealots are basically ashamed that the West has surpassed them and that they haven't defeated Israel. Not all Muslims desire the despots and theocrats' aspirations. Unfortunately, the Muslim Brotherhood and other fanatical sects will take over when all present dictators are removed, replacing them with even more religious dictators and extremists.
Over a decade ago, I read "The Devil's Horsemen" by James Chambers, about the Mongols' retribution to the Shah of Khwarizim. Khwarizim was several Muslim nations or cultures ruled by the Shah. I decided to write an historical fiction novel "Nomads, Warriors & Shamans" now titled "Barbarians".
As a result of further intense research, I learned about the Sunnis and Shi'ites, about Baghdad and Samarqand.
BARBARIANS - former title Nomads, Warriors & Shamans
http://onwardjames.blogspot.com/2009/05/barbarians-novel-for-literary-agents.html
Today, Iran, once part of Khwarizim, is a potential catastrophic threat. The fanatic mullahs do not mind if they are annihilated since many would join them.
Israel is not alone, however, because at least the Canadian government and a few other countries stand behind and with the Israelis. Mind you, Israel can likely do what they have to on their own.
Obama is campaigning and doesn't want any more blemishes before the election. He might also lose American Muslim votes and donations, (perhaps a lot from other parts of the world).
Frankly, to establish and maintain peace with the medieval minds — Victory First.
